[ARCHIVED] Mayor's Message - April 2023

Mayors Message April 2023

As the weather warms up it's a perfect opportunity to get outdoors and explore the different parks the Town has to offer. There are currently seven public parks located within Town limits.

Gibson Pond Park is a great place to explore what nature has to offer. As of April 1, the pond is back open for fishing, which can be done from one of the fishing piers. Other features include a dam and bridge, a dock, picnic shelters and swings. The large shelter at the back of the park is available to rent, but all of the smaller picnic shelters are available on a first come, first serve basis. There is also a short walking trail loop located at the very back of the park.

If you're looking for a place to take the kids, check out Corley Street Park and Caractor Park. Both parks feature playgrounds, a splash pad and picnic shelters with grills.

Until further notice, Virginia Hylton Park is closed while construction and renovations take place. The park is getting a complete makeover and once completed there will be all new walking trails, picnic shelters, a playground, exercise stations and more. The plan is to open the park in sections as they are completed.

Also, a reminder that the 2023 Spring Concert Series at Icehouse Amphitheater starts Thursday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. with the band Under the Sun. The free concerts will be each Thursday night through the end of May. Beer and wine will be available for purchase and you can check which food vendors will be featured each week under the Events Tab on our Facebook page.
