Town of Lexington General Election Information - November 2023

Information gathered from Lexington County Voter Registration 

A General Election for the Town of Lexington will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Any person wishing to Register to Vote in this Election may register in person at your County Voter Registration Office (County offices will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6th for in-office registrations). Register online at scVOTES.gov (forms must be received by Sunday, October 8th). You may also download a Voter Registration Form from scVOTES.gov. Complete and return the form to your County Voter Registration Office. The Lexington County Office will open for Early Voting from October 23, 2023, through November 3, 2023. The Early Voting will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (closed Saturday and Sunday).  

The following offices shall be included in this Election:
  • Mayor
  • (3) Town Council Seats

November 7, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. on the day of the Election, Lexington County Board of Voter Registration and Elections will begin its examination of the absentee ballot return envelopes at the Lexington Voter Registration and Election Office - 605 W. Main Street, Ste C, Lexington SC 29072

On Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., the Lexington County Board of Canvassers will hold a hearing to determine the validity of all provisional ballots cast in the Election at the Lexington County Voter Registration & Election Office- 605 W. Main Street, Suite C, Lexington SC 29072.


Early Voting

In-person absentee voting has now been replaced with a two-week early voting period. Any voter can visit an early-voting location in their county and vote like they would at their polling place on Election Day.


Early voting for the November General Election:
  • When: October 23 - November 3, 2023
  • Where: Lexington County Registration & Elections Office 605 West Main Street, Room 130, Lexington, SC 29072

Voters will be asked to present a photo ID when checking in.

Curb-Side Voting
  • Any voter who, because of a disability or being age 65 or older, cannot enter the polling place in which they are registered to vote or is unable to stand in line to vote may vote outside the polling place inside a vehicle in the closest available parking area (7-13-771, National Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act).

Absentee (by mail only)

Absentee voting allows qualified voters to cast a ballot by mail prior to Election Day. In-person absentee Voting is no longer authorized by law.

The Deadline for returning your absentee voter application is 5 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023.

All Absentee Applications must be ‘Completed, Signed and Returned’ to either an Early Voting Site or the County Board of Voter Registration Office BEFORE 5:00 pm Friday, October 27, 2023. All applications returned AFTER this date will NOT receive an Absentee Ballot. If you expect to miss this deadline, please vote at an Early Voting Site between October 23rd - November 3rd or Vote on November 7, 2023, Election Day, at your Precinct.

Qualified voters include:
  • Voters with disabilities.
  • Voters sixty-five years of age or older.
  • Members of the Armed Forces and Merchant Marines of the United States, their spouses, and dependents residing with them.
  • Voters admitted to hospitals as emergency patients on the day of an election or within a four-day period before the election.
  • Voters who, for one of the following reasons, are unable to vote in person any day of the early-voting period or Election Day.

  • Employment obligations.
  • Attending sick or physically disabled persons.
  • Confined to a jail or pretrial facility pending disposition of arrest or trial.
  • Absent from their county for any reason.
To vote absentee:
  • Request an Absentee application by phone, mail, or in person at your County Voter Registration Office no later than 5:00 p.m. October 27, 2023.
  • Complete, sign and return the application to your County Voter Registration Office by mail or in person by 5:00 p.m. October 27, 2023.
  • After your application is processed, you will receive your Absentee Ballot in the mail.
  • Vote and return your ballot to your County Voter Registration Office by mail or in person no later than 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 7, 2023.
  • Be sure to ‘Sign and Date the Voter’s Oath and have the ‘Return Envelope Witnessed’ (witness must print their name, sign and include their address). The witness requirement changes in the law went into effect in July 2022.
  • Photo ID will be required to return your ballot in person.
  • If someone other than the voter is returning the ballot, an Authorization to Return Absentee Ballot Form must accompany the ballot. This form is included in the ballot packet that is mailed to the voter. Both the voter and the returnee must sign the form. Proper ID will be required of the returnee to submit the ballot.
