March 2018

The Lexington Police Department strives to not only keep our community safe  but works on building a partnership with various organizations throughout the Midlands.
One such cause is Heroes in Blue, which was founded by CEO Kassy Alia after she lost her husband Officer Gregory Alia in the line of duty (EOW 9/30/15).

The nonprofit (501c3) organization is “committed to promoting positive police and community relationships through empathy and action and to providing support to the families and colleagues of fallen officers”.
The Lexington Police Department has supported Heroes in Blue through various efforts including donating $1,000 which was raised through the annual  “Adopt-A-Cop" Fall Festival. Additional initiatives include Pancakes with Police, National Night Out and Greg's Groceries, an event at Park North Apartments where Heroes in Blue provided holiday meals to each household and the Police Department bought gifts for over 135 children for the 2017 Christmas Season.

Council, staff and I are proud of this collaboration. Heroes In Blue has worked tirelessly to bring our law enforcement community together, allowing the general public to see firsthand our officers care and compassion for community.
