Interesting Facts
- 1928 Speed was regulated in Town of Lexington and a penalty set for violations.
- 1933 Town voted to buy Police Officer's uniform and allow the Officer to pay back the Town in 5 monthly payments.
- 1947 Town voted to buy V-8 Ford for Police Department to be equipped as needed.
- 1948 Ordinance passed for 1 hour parking on Main Street .
- 1949 Installed telephones in the Police Department.
- 1950 Police Department given $15 per month for expenses.
- 1953 Voted to buy small two-way radio.
- 1965 Police Committee was to look into the possibility of using tear gas guns for Police Officers on duty.
- 1966 Police Officers required to attend Law Enforcement Division Schools unless excused by Police Committee.
- 1972 Police begin using Radar in the town for speed enforcement.
- 1973 A motion is made to pay off duty Police Officers $3 per court session.
- 1977 Ordinance passed reducing speed limit in Town limit to 30mph except as otherwise posted.
- 1979 Purchased a radar unit for $1695
- 1995 Bike Patrol initiated.
- 1998 "Ice" the department's first canine officer was deployed for narcotics detection.
