October 2014

The Town of Lexington is entering one of our busiest times of year, the charitable season. Through a variety of signature events, we are proud that we are able to give back to the community.

First, the Lexington Police Department hosts their annual Fall Fest. The event started in 2005 and through the years has grown from being indoors with several hundred participants to being an outside event extending around the entire police department with over 2,500 people attending this family-friendly event.

Over the years, the police department has raised $32,832.00 for the Adopt-A-Cop fund and it's also allowed us to make donations to organizations such as Chris Meyers' Children's Place, Blue Star Mothers, Dickerson Center, and this year we'll support Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) with a donation.

Last year's Fall Fest was the most successful, raising $5,891.00 for the Adopt-A-Cop Fund. We anticipate the 2014 Fall Fest to be bigger and better with more than 50 businesses participating and providing a safe and family-friendly atmosphere for the community to trick-or-treat. We hope you can join us on Tuesday, October 21 from 5:30pm-8:30pm at the Lexington Municipal Complex (111 Maiden Lane). The admission fee is $5.00 per person or $15.00 for the immediate family and includes all food and ride activities.

The Town of Lexington also joins forces with the Lexington Sertoma Club to host the annual Carolina-Clemson Big Thursday Tailgate. Since its inception, the event has raised $28,259.00, which has been used for improvements at Gibson Pond Park, including a scenic overlook, picnic shelters and greenery and benches along the top of the dam.

This year marks the sixth year for the event, which will be hosted on Thursday, October 23 at the Lexington Municipal Complex (111 Maiden Lane), with the social starting at 5:30pm and dinner and program starting at 6:30pm.

Tickets are $30 per person and proceeds benefit the Town of Lexington's Park System. For more information, contact (803) 315-6932.

We hope to see you out and about this fall and encourage you to donate to these or other wonderful charitable organizations that make a difference in our community.
