July 2011

Happy 4th of July! I hope you and your family have an opportunity to take time and truly enjoy celebrating America's birthday. It is a day of picnics and parades, a night of concerts and fireworks and a special reason to fly "Old Glory".

July has always been an important month in the role of government, from declaring our independence to starting a new fiscal year. I am proud and honored to say that along with Council, we have yet again passed a financially sound budget (began July 1st). The Town of Lexington has had the great fortune for the last 25 years of passing a NO TAX increase budget. In fact, during that time, our millage rate has even decreased twice. This is a true testament to our competent staff that ensures all your services can and will be provided at the least amount possible.

A major factor that enables us to continue to provide these services, is the various grants awarded to the Town. One of the more recent grants provided a facelift to Corley St. Park. The transformation was done with the assistance of Lowe's Home Improvement, whose $18,841 grant furnished a spray pool, picnic shelter murals, playground equipment and an emergency call box. The Lexington Police Department added the call box for safety measures and the Lexington Countywide Stormwater Consortium installed a rain garden which is also being used as an environmental educational tool.

Our goal is to provide the best "quality of place" to you and your family. I encourage everyone to take advantage of Corley St. Park and all of the Town's parks. Have a great, safe summer!
