November 2011

I am excited to once again witness the great democracy of our country, as Town residents will take to the polls for our Municipal General Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 to vote for three council positions and a local question: Beer and Wine Sunday Sale Referendum.

The ballot will consist of THREE at large Council Seats. The seated council members are Danny Frazier, Todd Shevchik and Richard Thompson. The other candidates are Constance Caractor Flemming, Steve MacDougall and Tripp Newsome.

I strongly encourage you to learn more about each through the Election Platform Videos airing on Ch. 2 at listed viewing times: 12am, 3am, 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm and 9pm. You may also watch the videos, at any time, via our website.

Additionally the ballot will contain a Beer and Wine Sunday Sale Referendum. The Referendum will read on the ballot as such: "Shall the Department of Revenue be authorized to issue temporary permits in the Town of Lexington for a period not to exceed twenty-four hours to allow the sale of beer and wine sales at permitted off-premises locations without regard to the days or hours of sales?"

A YES vote would allow grocery stores and other retail outlets in the Town of Lexington to sell beer and wine on Sunday, so long as it is not consumed on the premises. A NO vote would leave things as they are now. Sales of alcoholic beverages in bars and restaurants, which are already allowed on Sunday, would be unaffected.

Remember, your vote makes a difference. Do your homework and I hope to see everyone at the polls on Municipal Election Day!
