The Town provides residential garbage collection. This is done through a contract with Southland Sanitation (phone number 256-7276).
Please note: household trash, yard debris and recycling are all picked up on the same designated day.
Roll carts, recycle bins and yard debris need to be out on the curb by 7:00 am on the pick up day.
The contractor provides residents one roll cart and the roll cart's serial number is assigned to that address. The contractor will be responsible for maintaining the roll carts.
The Town will deliver a recycling bin.
Yard debris - grass, leaves, pine straw, etc should be bagged. Limbs should be no longer than 4 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter. If they are not in compliance, the garbage collector will leave a red tag on one of the limbs.
Yard debris bags are provided for free and can be picked up from Town Hall in quantities of 5 at a time.
Cardboard boxes go out with yard debris. The boxes need to be broken down with no garbage in them.
The following items are recycled:
Plastics #1 through #7 (bottles only) Clear, brown, and green glass
Aluminum and metal cans Magazines and Catalogs
Newspapers and Inserts
Bulk pick up:
Pick up of large appliances (refrigerator, freezer, etc.) is done on the second Wednesday of the month. Residents need to call us at least two days prior to that day to schedule a pick up.
Other large items such as furniture or lawn mowers can be collected on regular pick up days. Please notify this office when large items will be placed at the street for collection.
Holidays:
The holiday collection schedule will be posted in The State newspaper and on Cable TV Channel 2.
No recycling or yard debris pickup is provided to commercial establishments.
There is no pick up of construction materials (even residential materials like carpet, bricks, concrete, automotive parts, tires, rims, boards, wood, etc.)
