The Town of Lexington is the county seat for Lexington County and is located in the Midlands of South Carolina . Lexington is the fastest growing municipality in the state, growing from 9,800 in 2000 to 16,500 citizens in 2004 and we are located within one of the fastest growing counties in South Carolina . We are located approximately twelve miles from the state capital of Columbia and within three hours of such beach resort areas as Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head.
Lexington boasts such amenities as easy access to the 50,000 acre Lake Murray with many opportunities to fish, water ski, boat, sail, and swim. Lexington also is proud of its heritage as provided by the Lexington Historical Society's historical restorations of colonial and antebellum architecture and lifestyles. Lexington also hosts a variety of community events, from the annual summer concerts in the park series to the family-oriented FunFest and the palate pleasing Taste of Lexington .
