Town of Lexington Issues Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility Statement
The Town of Lexington has become aware that the City of Cayce has sent a letter to their residents regarding our partner/purchaser contract for the expansion of the current wastewater treatment facility. The Town of Lexington is committed to protecting our more than 11,000 customers who will be served by this new facility.
The Town, along with the Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission intend for the contract to be implemented as stated when initially signed in 2009.
The following bullet points outline our position in order to receive a fair rate for our more than 11,000 wastewater customers.
•
The Town has agreed to pay the full actual cost of providing sewer treatment services, assuring that indirect costs will be fair and reasonable.
•
The Town expects the rate charged to be fair and equitable in accordance with the contract.

The City of Cayce's proposal includes Fee in lieu of Taxes (FILOT) payments, along with business license and franchise fees to the Town. We feel these payments are unjustified as they are simply transfers to the City of Cayce's General Fund Budget and are not an operating cost under the contract
It is our hope to enter into mediation with the City of Cayce and the Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission to resolve the outstanding issues regarding rates for the new system that will be active in Spring 2012.
