The Town of Lexington is centrally located within Lexington County and has been the county seat since 1820. Over the last several decades, both the town and county have seen tremendous growth. According to Census 2000, Lexington County is the 5th largest county (by population - 216,014), and is the 3rd fastest growing in the state, both in raw numbers, and by percentage.
Much of the growth in the town and surrounding community is due to the academic excellence of Lexington School District One. Education is the key to any area's ability to attract and retain business and Lexington has a great report card to show you! Because of their innovative approach and commitment to education excellence, Lexington School District One is the fastest growing school district in the state. And, along with School District Five, consistently ranks in the state's top 3 for SAT scores. But, it doesn't stop there. Lexington is within minutes of a nationally recognized university, many colleges, and one of the finest technical colleges in the southeast. |

| This little town, located by the nation's largest earthen dam and just 10 miles from the state capital of Columbia, has access to three interstates (I-20, I-26 & I-77) that link it to Charlotte, Atlanta, Greenville/Spartanburg and the port at Charleston. Traffic counts reveal that averages of 130,000 vehicles travel to and through Lexington each day. A first class metropolitan airport is just 8 miles away and the Norfolk Southern Railway crosses through the town. Within a few, short hours drive, over one half of the nation's population awaits for goods and services to be delivered to their front door from our community! |
