Council Member Kathy Maness
Background Information:
Mrs. Kathy Maness was elected to Lexington Town Council in 2004 and was reelected in 2008. She currently serves as the National President of Women in Municipal Government (WIMG), a constituency group of the National League of Cities. Mrs. Maness has served on the Board of Directors of WIMG since 2006 and became the first woman from South Carolina to be WIMG President when she took the oath in November 2011. She also serves as the Council Liaison for the Town's Planning Commission.
Mrs. Maness is the Executive Director of Palmetto State Teachers Association. She joined the staff of PSTA in 1993 as the Director of Association Activities and served as state President of PSTA while teaching third grade at Erwin Elementary in Lancaster County.
In 2003, she was awarded the Administrator of the Year Award by the South Carolina Network for Women Administrators in Education. In 2007, she received the Public Service Award from Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority for Educators.
Mrs. Maness is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. She also attended Winthrop University, where she completed coursework for certification in Education Administration.
She is married to Amiel Maness and has three children: Rebekah, 23, a graduate of the Honor's College at the University of South Carolina; Patrick, 20, and Jonathan, nine, a fourth grader at Midway Elementary School.
