A new year gives us a chance to look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead and also a chance to reflect on notable accomplishments from last year.
The Town of Lexington saw strong growth in the aftermath of the pandemic. There was a 9.2% increase in business licenses that were issued and six new restaurants opened in Town. The Town celebrated the opening of the Icehouse Amphitheater Pavilion, which is home to The Market and hosts vendors during concerts. Gibson Pond is full of water for the first time since 2015 and the park reopened for the community to enjoy. There was also a decrease in property crime for the third year in a row and numerous officers with the Lexington Police Department were recognized with state-wide awards.
There is a lot to look forward to in 2022. Construction on road projects will continue as the Town works to relieve traffic congestion and improve traffic flow. Work is also expected to begin on the complete renovation and expansion of Virginia Hylton Park, which is located behind Town Hall. The annual Lexington County Chili Cookoff will kick start a long list of events being held at Icehouse Amphitheater this year. Following that, the St. Patrick’s Day parade and concert will be held March 12. The Spring Lexington Live Concert Series, presented by Nephron Pharmaceuticals, will start on the first Thursday in April and will continue each Thursday through the end of May. The shows are free and you can follow along on our Facebook page as we announce the lineup of bands.
I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season and I hope everyone gets the chance to enjoy everything we have planned for the year ahead!
