February 2017

As I deliver my fourth State of the Town Address this month, I continue to gleam with joy from our accomplishments.

Lexington is my hometown and we continue to grow and expand our municipal boundaries. In 2016, we had 16 annexations, encompassing 325 acres of property. Within this, the town welcomed two new schools, Meadow Glen Elementary School and Meadow Glen Middle School. To ensure student safety, the Police Department has three school resource officers dedicated to the five schools within our service area, establishing a safe and secure academic environment for our students.

Additionally, the Police Department was awarded a Body Camera Grant. The grant provided funding for all uniformed officers to carry a body worn camera while on duty. The department also received a Traffic Safety Grant, funding two officers and their equipment needed for a three-year time frame.

Finally, the Police Department received the Security Industry Alarm Award, for a reduction of business and residential alarms by over 40% in a six-year time frame.

These achievements are just a fragment of the wonderful things happening within the Town of Lexington. Join me Monday, February 6, 2017 at 6:30pm for our Council Meeting, as I deliver my State of the Town Address acknowledging all of our major accomplishments in 2016 and announcing our goals for this year. You may also watch the Address live on our TWC station.
