April 2015

I am happy to say spring has sprung and April is filled with many community events.

First and foremost, April is the celebration of Earth Day, and there are several events taking place throughout the month to help protect the environment. Lexington County residents can participate in Regional Recycling day on Saturday, April 11 from 8am - 12pm at Crossroads Middle School (6949 St. Andrews Rd). This important event includes recycling of household hazardous waste, tires and pesticides. Full details are in this edition of Town Topics.

Also, the Lexington Soil & Water Conservation District will host a "Sustainability in your Backyard" workshop on Saturday, April 18 from 1pm - 4pm at Terra Kotta Farms (2412 Lewie Rd. ~ Leesville). Registration is $5 and will discuss backyard chickens, beginning gardening, alternative water source for irrigation, rainwater harvesting, dairy goats and milk/cheese production. For more information, contact the Lexington Soil & Water Conservation District at (803) 359-3165 x 3.

Finally, the 15th Annual Kid's Day of Lexington will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 10am - 2pm at Virginia Hylton Park (111 Maiden Lane). This signature event will feature entertainment, along with educational and food vendors. 100% of proceeds benefit Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter and Dickerson Center for Children. For more information, contact (803) 356-8554 or visit the Lexington Kids Day website.

I hope to see you out and about this month at all these wonderful events. Enjoy the spring season!
