January 2012

Happy New Year! 2012, here we come! It is hard to believe another year is upon us. I am very excited for the coming year and watching the nearly $1.2 million dollars the Town recently received in grant funding put to good use in our great Town for the benefit of both our businesses and citizens.

First, the Town's Police Department was awarded a Department of Public Safety Grant which added TWO additional officers on the road for traffic safety and includes the purchase of equipment and vehicles. The grant will provide almost $500,000 to the department during its three year term. This is quite significant and will help ease the stress on the Town's General Fund Budgeting.

The Town also received $80,000 in a Community Development Block Grant for our Police Department's afterschool program K.E.Y.S. (Keeping Every Youth Safe). This grant was awarded last summer and was used for the fall semester and continues through the remainder of the school year.

Also, 2012 will see us implementing facets of our Vision Plan. The Town was fortunate to receive a DOT Interchange and Gateway Beautification grant for our first initiative. The Interstate 20/ Sunset Blvd (US 378) Interchange Beautification Project was awarded $620,000 collectively to transform the corridor into the "front porch" of Lexington. The project will include landscaping and signage welcoming visitors and residents to our wonderful Town.

Council and I are looking forward to seeing these "transformations" take place and to continue our grant efforts to provide the best quality of life possible and to showcase why the Town of Lexington is a wonderful place to live, work, learn, play and worship.

May the coming year bring you happiness, good health and prosperity!
