November 2012

As Town Council embarked on the Vision Plan journey two years ago, the focus was how can we provide a better quality of life to our residents as well as the opportunity to stimulate economic activity in the downtown corridor. A key recommendation to that answer was to host additional Town events, such as a revamped Christmas Celebration.

Many of you have celebrated the season with the Town at our annual Carolighting held at Virginia Hylton Park for the last 36 years. This has always been one of my favorite events of the year and I, along with Council, are excited to announce a new celebration, the Snowball Festival. Some of you who have lived in Lexington for some time will remember the popular Snowball Dance held at the Old Armory. In its honor, we have named our Christmas Festival to recognize that tradition.

The Town of Lexington's inaugural Snowball Festival will take place Saturday, December 1 – Sunday, December 2, 2012. The two-day event will kick-off with a 5K race benefiting Patty Packs (501c3) dedicated to assisting individuals and families faced with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). Saturday evening is Adult's Night Out with a formal dance to include live entertainment, food and libations. Sunday is jammed packed with the unveiling of our cell phone walking tour of historic downtown Lexington, the annual Christmas Parade along Main St. and concludes with a concert, visits with Santa and tree lighting at the new Lexington Square. Full details with times are located on the back of this month's Town Topics.

We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the festivities with family and friends and help celebrate the beginning season at the Snowball Festival, "Because CHRISTMAS is for the Kid in ALL of US".
