October 2011

The Town of Lexington is very proud to be at the forefront of new residential and commercial development. It speaks volumes for the quality of life we work hard for everyday to provide for our citizens.

Earlier in the year, myself along with members of council and staff visited several Upstate cities to find out about their success in economic development and how we can transfer that success to Lexington as we develop our Vision Plan.

Although we are still finalizing our Vision Plan, to our delight the growth opportunities for commerce have already spawned from our visit. In September it was announced that Stone Theatres Group has chosen the Town to be its new location for a state-of-the-art movie theater complex.

This potential game changing development would not have been possible without Council Member Danny Frazier and Economic Catalyst Johnny Jeffcoat. Councilman Frazier has worked tirelessly in securing easements from property owners along Sunset Blvd. This has allowed our Town to install wastewater infrastructure at strategic points along this corridor to support commercial development. Without his efforts, none of the development that has occurred, or that will occur, would have been possible. Mr. Jeffcoat, due to his previous association and involvement with Mr. Stone in the Columbiana Theatres Development at the Columbiana Mall, was the "key" in attracting the theatre to our Town. This relationship was paramount to the company choosing Lexington over other properties in the Midlands. I know I speak for all our citizens when I say "Thank You" to Councilman Frazier and Mr. Jeffcoat for being so instrumental and bringing a much needed entertainment venue to our Town for our citizens to enjoy.

The Town hopes the addition of Stone Theatres will be used as a catalyst for future businesses to chose our community as their newest investment, the same reason you have already chose to call it home!
