December 2011

It is hard to imagine that another holiday season is upon us. As we take the next few weeks to spend time with family, friends and co-workers to celebrate the wonders of the Christmas season. I want to take a moment to give thanks to many of the blessings that have been bestowed upon the Town of Lexington this past year.

First, the Town is fortunate to have another member of the Police Department graduate from the FBI National Academy, providing our force with the most professional and sophisticated training available. The department was also awarded a $215,011 grant from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety that will provide the force with two new officers along with the purchase of their equipment and vehicles, for a full three years.

Also, our citizens were able to take advantage of Gibson Pond Park and Corley Street Park, which have been upgraded thanks to our wonderful partnerships with the Lexington Sertoma Club and Lowe's Home Improvement Center.

The Town also brought activity to Main Street through our inaugural Farmers Market and the annual Wine Walk on Main and Oktoberfest events. We were also excited to announce several economic development projects, including the addition of a new state-of-the-art movie theatre, opening in 2012.

We were also honored to be selected to participate in the National League of Cities - City Showcase last month in Phoenix, Arizona. The Town was one of only 24 municipalities in the county selected for our achievements in infrastructure. We featured our Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility, which is a partnership with the City of Cayce and the Lexington County Joint Water and Sewer Commission.

As you can see, 2011 has had several milestones, shining the light on our great community. Council, staff and I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy Prosperous New Year ~ See you in 2012!
